Oakley Corners State Forest This is an often overlooked birding hot spot that is very close to our area. There are two ponds to explore and a closed off dirt road providing excellent birding. Meet in the Wiess Grocery Store parking lot in West Corners across the road from the Mobile gas station at 8:00 am. We will drive from there up to Oakley Corners.

* IBM Glen Evening Nature WalkIBM Glen Evening Nature Walk

Evening walk in the IBM Glen to the waterfalls with Colleen Wolpert and a shorter easier hike with Victor Lamoureux Colleen will lead a long hilly hike to the waterfalls from 6 PM to 8:30 PM and Victor S. Lamoureux will lead a shorter easier hike that has fewer hills from 6 PM to 8 PM. Colleen will provide both groups with an introduction to butterflies and the plants they require to keep their life-cycle going in the Glen. This may include seeing a caterpillar and the release of a butterfly. On the hike, Colleen will identify butterflies and other insects, flowers, trees, and birds. She will encourage people to learn to recognize birds by their songs and identify the host plants for some butterflies. She will also introduce letter boxing and geo-caching. Some history of the Glen will also be provided. Colleen Wolpert teaches butterfly classes at the Waterman Center and leads nature walks.On the shorter hike, Victor Lamoureux will share his knowledge of birds, amphibians, reptiles, and other wildlife. Victor is an Adjunct Professor of Biology at BCC. He is also a veteran birder and award winning wildlife photographer. To register, call 625-2221. Children welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. $3.00/members, $4.00/non-members, $1.00 for children.
