DUE TO WEATHER – THIS FIELD TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELLED!
This is a unique high elevation forest which features boreal forest-like habitat not seen outside the Adirondacks or summits of the Catskills. It is one of the few places that SWAINSON’S THRUSH (a boreal forest bird) actually nests in Central NY. This place you can get ALL brown thrushes in the east at once… WOOD, HERMIT AND SWAINSON’S THRUSH plus VEERY. In addition, the spruces are full of warblers, Blackburnian and Magnolia are particularly abundant here along with quite a few Mourning and Canada warblers.
Consider packing a lunch or at least a snack if you need to eat before noon. It is a 1 hour drive, so we will probably bird from 8 to Noon and then head home.
Meet at Oakdale Mall, pole #6 at the back of Sears at 7:00am. All are welcome!
Please consider volunteering to drive as we will likely need more than one vehicle.
