Field Trip Hawkins Pond
Saturday, February 27 - 8:00am Robert Grajewski will lead this trip. We will take a chance and see how a late February trip to Hawkins Pond works out. Please remember to bring good boots as some of the trails have have wet areas. Meet at Oakdale Mall, pole #6 at the back of Sears at 8:00am. Volunteer drivers may be necessary. The Northern Saw-whet Owl in Your Back Yard This month’s talk, “The Northern Saw-whet Owl in Your Back Yard”, describes John Confer’s fall banding station at his houseon Hammond Hill for migrating Northern Saw-whet Owls and describes saw-whet migration and population dynamics in eastern North America. John has banded between 50 and 100 saw-whets in the last four falls. The Naturalists’ Club of Broome County will lead three Bird Song Classes in May. Join a club naturalist for a Saturday morning, and learn to identify birds by their song as well as by sight. Join us for a birding trip into the woods of Skyline Drive State Forest. This is a fairly dense forest area. The forest provides excellent habitat for a wide variety of birds. In the past we have seen Black and White Warblers, Black-throated Blue Warblers and Scarlet Tanager. Meet at Oakdale Mall, pole #6 at the back of Sears at 8:00am. Volunteer drivers may be necessary. This is a potluck dinner event and please bring prepared hot and cold dishes wrapped to place on the serving tables. The club will provide rolls, margarine, and beverages. Teri Franzen is passionate about observing and photographing wildlife on its terms, wild, unaltered and undisturbed. She has been a wildlife photographer since 2012 after having met up with a Northern Goshawk on her very first outing.
