TOPIC – HOW A CAREER IN CONSERVATION LED ME TO THE NY BREEDING BIRD ATLAS
Our speaker has spent her career engaged in conservation throughout the Northeast and beyond. She will share her experiences working with birds and other wildlife, from seabirds to montane specialists, from Wyoming to New Zealand, and how this led her to her current role as the project coordinator of the upcoming Breeding Bird Atlas. After talking about some of the exciting research programs she has been involved with, she will discuss volunteer and learning opportunities with the upcoming atlas and why this statewide project is so important to the conservation of wildlife and their habitats in New York.
Julie Hart is a native Vermonter with a passion for wildlife conservation. She has worked across the globe studying birds, butterflies, and dragonflies. She has conducted research throughout the Northeast as well as out west, in the Caribbean, Europe, and New Zealand. She worked for Audubon New York, National Audubon, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and the Vermont Center for Ecostudies among other organizations before joining the NY Natural Heritage Program earlier this year to lead the 2020-2024 NY Breeding Bird Atlas. In her free time, she enjoys traveling to explore the diversity of life in far flung places.
