In 2005 Dolores Elliott traveled to Kenya with an Iroquois beadworker to help him revive beadwork among several groups in Kenya. While there she made friends with a Maasai man whose dream it was to start a safari company. In 2014 Dolores invited four friends to join her on safari with David, whose dream had been realized. David took them to several game reserves, villages, museums, schools, and to visit his family. Of course, they saw tens of thousands of wild animals including the “big five” and herds of zebras, many species of antelopes, and giraffes. They went to an elephant nursery, dined with rhinos and crocodiles, and saw hundreds of species of birds. This personal safari was an adventure of a lifetime. She will share pictures of some of the highlights. Dolores Elliott is a long time Naturalists’ Club member who joined 1967 after she met several Weedwalkers who volunteered at an archaeological excavation that she was directing. She has presented several programs in the past. Currently, she directs the Iroquois Studies Association.
